Three Persons, Including A Nursing Mother, Arrested For N3.7Million Fraud (Photo)

<p dir="ltr">The EFCC, on Thursday, April 28, 2016, arraigned the trio of Patience Owerema, Nwakoba N.Francisca and Okafor Kingsley before Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on a four-count charge bordering on conspiracy, abuse of office, forgery, impersonation and diversion of funds to the tune of N3, 766, 160.00(Three Million, Seven Hundred and Sixty-six Thousand, One Hundred and Sixty Naira).<br>
These nefarious trio allegedly conspired to divert the terminal benefits of one late Udemba Clement, a former employee of NITEL and father to the petitioner, Emmanuel Udemba. Luck ran out on the criminals,when Emmanuel made efforts to collect his late father’s final entitlement but all to no avail.<br>
After much persistence, it was discovered that the benefits were paid into an account setup by the fraudulent trio.<br>
They all pleaded not guilty. Francisca, the nursing mother, was granted bail on compassionate grounds, while the other two were remanded in Kuje and Suleja prisons.<br>
The case was adjourned till June 14th for further hearings.</p>

FG Re-arraigns Senate President Bukola Saraki On New Charges

<p dir="ltr">Abuja, April 28, 2016 (NAN) The Federal Government on Thursday re-arraigned<br>
Senate<b> President </b><b>Bukola</b><b> </b><b>Saraki</b><b> </b>on amended three charges of <u>alleged</u> false asset declaration before the Code of Conduct Tribunal.<br>
Saraki pleaded not guilty to the charges.<br>
In the fresh charge, the Federal Government accused Saraki of abusing his office while serving as Governor of Kwara State between Oct.2016 and May 2007 by obtaining a loan from GTBank to acquire property at No. 17A and 17B McDonald Street Ikoyi, Lagos.<br>
The Federal Government, through its counsel, Rotimi Jacobs (SAN), said Saraki failed to declare the property which was allegedly acquired in at N497.2 million.<br>
In the charge, Jacobs also accused Saraki of failure to declare his leasehold interest in property located at No.42, Remi Fani-Kayode Street, Ikeja, Lagos allegedly acquired through his company Skyview Properties Company.<br>
The charge further accused Saraki of allegedly receiving monthly salary between June 2011 and October 2013 when he was Senator.<br>
After hearing the charge, Saraki’s lawyer, Paul Usoroh SAN, asked the tribunal to adjourn the case to enable him to consult his client to respond to the new amended charges.<br>
The Chairman of the tribunal, Justice Danladi Umar, adjourned the case till May 10 for continuation of trial.</p>

Treat People With Gunshot Wounds, Accident Victims Before Demanding Police Report – El-Rufai

<p dir="ltr">Kaduna State Governor, Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai has directed all hospitals in the state to treat persons with gun wounds and accident victims before demanding police reports.<br>
The governor said that the duty to save lives is primary, and must come ahead of formal reports to the police.<br>
The spokesman to the Governor, Samuel Aruwan,disclosed this in a statement shortly after the 15th Kaduna State Security Council meeting held in Sir Kashim Ibrahim House, Kaduna.<br>
“The Governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, has directed all hospitals in the state to,with immediate effect, start treating persons with gunshot wounds and accident victims without demanding Police Report as a basis for attention. Lives must be saved first, before the formalities of demanding Police Reports from victims.<br>
After saving lives, hospitals and other agencies can start making inquiries regarding how the gunshot wounds and other injuries were sustained.<br>
We consider it a gross abdication of responsibility if any hospital leaves injured patients unattended because of the absence of Police Reports.<br>
What is important is saving lives. There is no reason for an innocent citizen who has survived armed robbery and needs treatment for a gunshot wound to be denied the medical attention he requires.<br>
The hospitals can comply with reporting requirements to the police after providing the care the patient needs.<br>
This is the unanimous resolution of the Kaduna State Security Council. As Governor, I have communicated this decision to the Kaduna State Ministry of Health and Human Services and other concerned agencies operating in the state.<br>
A moment of trauma is not the time to put paper before lives. All our healthcare agencies have been advised that it will amount to criminal neglect to deny or delay critical care to such patients.”Aruwan said<br>
The meeting of the Kaduna State <u>Security</u> Council which endorsed the resolution was attended by representatives of the Army, Police, Air Force, Navy, DSS, Civil Defense, FRSC, NDLEA and the Customs service.</p>
